Brian: Marianne, several guests are coming tonight. Can you tell them to put off their shoes?

Marianne: Sorry?

Brian: Tell the guests to wear slippers. I don’t want a dirty house!

Marianne: OK……Sir, fire! I saw some smoke from Mrs. Chan’s kitchen.

Brian: Call 999. Quick! The firemen will come to put off the fire.

Marianne: Put off the fire?

Brian: You take care the dog. I will go and see what is happening there.

Marianne: Take care the dog?

Brian: Yes, my dog!

Marianne: Sir, you aren’t using prepositions correctly…

“To put off” 意思是指推遲一件事。例如: “Brian will put off his trip to Japan.”

“除鞋”、”除褸”, 是”Take off your shoes. / Take off your jacket.”
“Brian wants the guests to take off their shoes.”

Put on your jacket.”
“Brian wants the guests to put on slippers.”

To put off fire”
“The firemen will put out the fire.”

Take care the dog,
Take care of”
Please take care of the dog for me.

Marianne: How is Mrs Chan?!

Brian: She is fine. I took care of her but I am so tired now. I think I will have to put off the party tonight.

Marianne: Great! So I can take a rest tonight…

Brian: Hey! What is the smell?!

Marianne: Oh! I was cooking!

Brian: Put out the fire, now!
