英語fun分鐘 (2008) 第四集 Teaching point: Grammar (sentence) –common error ‘There has/have something’2013-01-31
遊客：Excuse me. I would like to go shopping in Hong Kong. Where would you recommend?
遊客：Any shopping areas in Hong Kong you can recommend?
路人：Oh! Sure! Sure! You can go to MK.
路人：MK means Mongkok, a very busy area in Kowloon. You know? There have many shops, like gadget shops, bookstores, shoe shops, and boutiques. Hmm, there had many old buildings on Portland Street. But now, there has a big hotel.
路人：唔知佢明唔明呢? You understand me? Any mistake in my English?
遊客：Yes, I understand but you did make one mistake …
陳：個遊客指點路人的 ‘There have’、’There has’ 與’There had’ 是港式英語。
廣東話入面中“嗰度有D乜野”不能直譯為’there has/have’!’There’ 作為句子 subject, 只可以用’verb to be’, 亦即是 is/was, are/were, 又或者 has been/have been 或者had been等等。
如果想學那個路人說那兒有些什麼店舖或者大廈, 應該是:’There are many shops, like gadget shops, book stores, shoe shops and boutiques. There were many old buildings on Portland Street. But now, there is a big hotel.” 。
路人：Thanks. You’re very nice.
遊客：Thank you for your tips. How can I go to MK then?
路人：There are many choices. But the fastest way is taking the MTR.
